The Villa Ocampo Project


The Executive Director of the project is Nicolás Helft, who works closely with Unesco’s Regional Office in Montevideo, where he receives assistance from the Office Director Jorge Grandi, the Adviser for World Heritage in Latin America and the Caribbean and Adviser for Culture in the Mercosur Herman van Hooff and the Administrative Officer Anne Carré Quesnel.

We want to thank the members of the Administration Council of Villa Ocampo who actively collaborate with the project.

The inventory of Villa Ocampo’s furnishings was made and given to us by the Asociación Por Villa Ocampo. Fundación Sur gave us the historical photographs that appear in this site.

Unesco’s adviser for the restoration of the house is Rodolfo Gassó. Restoration work is supervised by Arq. Eduardo Carena and the contractor, Ing. Guillermo Villa. We get help from the Dirección Nacional de Arquitectura where we work with the Director Julio Herrero Anzorena and architects Javier Pita, Javier Moya and Guillermo Frontera. We also wish to thank Fabio Grementieri for his help.

In matters related to Villa Ocampo´s security we work with Ricardo Salas, from United Nation´s security office.

We also wish to thank Domingo Cullen from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

María Gainza supervised several cultural projects and wrote most of the texts of this website. Cynthia Orfali develops the documentation center.

Sergio Manela is our graphic designer, he designed our brand, logo and website.

Santiago Porter took the photographs of the restoration process.

Early restoration work on the garden was supervised by Estudio Thays. The garden´s restoration project is authored by Sonia Berjman and Ana Ricciardi, with the help of Fabio Grementieri.

Current work is directedsupervised by Eduardo Ottoviani. Landscape architects who collaborated at different times in the project include Esmeralda Almonacid, Silvina Ruiz Moreno de Bunge, Dorotea Schultz and San Isidro’s Garden Club. We wish to thank especially San Isidro’s Dirección de Parques y Paseos, where we received help from Alberto Trípoli and Alberto Theler.

The city of San Isidro collaborates actively with our project. We wish to thank María del Pilar Roca de Korger, Bernardo Lozier, director of the Historial Museum, Pedro Alvarez from the Office of Tourism, and Guillermo Sánchez Landa and Rubén Scandizzo.

Restoration work on the Villa’s furnishings is supervised by Mariana Astesiano and Graciela Razé from the Museum of Decorative Arts, and by Alejandra Siquier. Astesiano and Razé also did unvaluable work on the collection before the this project started in October 2003.

The commercial valuation of the inventory was done by Enrique Bullrich, from Bullrich, Gaona y Wernicke. We also received help from Mario Gilardoni and from Juan Carlos Ocampo.

The inventory of the collection of photographs was performed by Hugo Gez.

Ivonne Bordelois helped us in several projects and wrote several texts for this website.

We get continuing support from Prof. Michel Lafon of the Université Stendhal de Grenoble, and from Prof. Peter Johson of Princeton.
