The Villa Ocampo Project, initiated on October 15th 2003, has two components: the restoration of the Villa Ocampo and the mapping out of cultural programs that are set to commence in early 2005. Objectives for 2004 include the restoration of the exterior of the house and of the gardens, furniture, and books.


The major achievements since October have been the following:

• The completion of the restoration of the exterior of the house is under way and progressing according to schedule. It will be completed by Novembre.

• The rehabilitation of the garden began in March 2004. The first part of it has been completed, in a project supervised by the Estudio Thays and implemented by the Parks and Walks Division of the Municipality of San Isidro.

• The repairs of the roofs produced by the fire of September 2003 has begun and it will be completed by December.

• The rehabilitation of the garden will include the restoration of the fountain which has not functioned in many years.

• Victoria’s furniture, works of art, household objects, photographs and the contents of her library were moved from the Villa Ocampo to a depository for safekeeping and preservation.

• The furniture was treated by an exterminator in February 2004.

• The restoration of the furniture was begun in May 2004. The work is being done in stages, with priority given to the items that will first return to the Villa Ocampo.

• An appraisal will be conducted to determine the value of the furnishings and works of art.

• The books which suffered water damage during the fire were restored by the National Library. These books and magazines were about 80 in number, or some 0.5% of the total holdings.

• The books and periodicals in Victoria’s library will be cleaned and treated by an exterminator.

• The inventory of the photography collection has been completed.
